Hi! We are Deb and Deepa, two science nerds with PhDs in biology, 1000+ peer‑reviewed publications (yes, really), but with an even bigger passion for dogs. We grew up in India, moved to the U.S. in our early 20s for grad school, and spent the next decade doing Very Serious Science. Fun fact: between the two of us, we have published in over 15 journals, including Nature, which is basically the Beyoncé of scientific publishing.
But here’s the truth: Our love for dogs has always been at least 10x stronger than our love for pipettes and PCR machines. Science pays the bills… but dogs fill our hearts.
NamastePaws started as a tiny side gig on Rover, mostly because scientists are famously underpaid and we needed to supplement our “character‑building” salaries. But it quickly became so much more! We fell in love with caring for pups beyond our own. We realized how much joy it brings us to help pet parents travel stress‑free, knowing their fur‑babies are safe, loved, and living their best staycation life. And honestly, when we heard dogs wag like crazy at the sound of our name, or start dancing in the car as they turn onto our street, our hearts melted. That’s when we knew this was more than a side gig. It was our calling.
Over the years, we have fostered multiple pups, adopted two of our own (more about them in the next section), and became proud advocates for adoption over shopping. Our hearts break for the dogs still waiting in shelters for their forever homes; they are the purest souls on Earth and deserve so much more than life has given them.
Our dream for NamastePaws is bigger than boarding. We want to build a business that lets us give back; through donations to SPCA and local rescues, through fostering, through awareness, and through creating a community of humans who care as deeply as we do.

Einstein is our first baby; the little soul who made us the dog-adorers we are.
We adopted him at just 7 weeks old, the tiny runt of a breeding that had gone wrong. His dad was a Min Pin, his mom a Boston Terrier, and he inherited the “wrong” mix - fragile, thin‑limbed, and overlooked. The breeders planned to euthanize him because no one wanted the “imperfect” puppy. We were broke grad students who couldn’t afford shelter fees, but we scraped together the $200 the breeder asked; a price that felt more like a riddance than a sale. We didn’t care. The moment we saw him, he was ours.
He was barely 4 pounds, too weak to eat kibble or even wet food, yet powered by a brilliant little brain running at 200 mph. True to his name, he learned commands faster than we could Google “training tips.”
And oh, the playfulness. Einstein is the most playful pup we have ever known. Ball is his entire personality, and squeaker toys? He loses his mind for them. Even now, at 10+ years old, he’s one of the most energetic dogs we have ever encountered - a tiny dynamo who refuses to act his age and keeps us laughing every single day.
Those first weeks were terrifying! He was weaned far too early and so fragile, we hand-fed him tiny bites of rice and chicken, praying he would make it through the night. He loved it so much; he is happily eating it for ten years now.

She drove all the way back to California with them, determined to give them a chance.

We brought him home, and he instantly became Einstein’s shadow, sidekick, and biggest fan. He follows his big brother everywhere and reveres him like a furry superhero.
Krypto may not have Einstein’s turbocharged brain or his bottomless appetite, but he has something just as special: a heart made of pure sunshine. He is soft, sweet, endlessly loving and he has a magical way of helping shy guest pups feel safe. Nervous dogs warm up to him almost instantly; one gentle sniff from Krypto, and suddenly they are wagging, exploring, and ready to make friends.
